The Floribbean Festival celebrated the cultural and culinary linkages between Florida and the Caribbean. Customers enjoyed cooking demonstrations that focused on cassava, chayote, potatoes, olives, and turmeric and enjoyed free food samples prepared by three local restaurants: the Caribbean Queen, Latin Food Blessings, and Mi Apa. The Latina Women’s League of Gainesville shared information about the medicinal and nutritional value of Florida heritage and helped distribute recipe cards in Spanish and English. Customers purchased a wide variety of heritage crops and left with valuable tips on how to these in their own backyards.
The GNV Farmers’ Market aims to make healthy, locally-grown food accessible and available to everyone. Our market fosters a sense of community and appreciation for our local farming communities and crafts people.
